Short Narrative/Description:
◦For many years, Lean has been implemented using various methodologies in healthcare; however, the true sustainment is a challenge. Shrinking reimbursements, increased costs, and antiquated processes are typically all reasons to adopt Lean thinking ”but they also have led to the dissolution of the very departments meant to solve them! Inova Health System embarked on it’s Lean journey in 2008 and has steadily seen the results of using a coordinated model of complimentary goal setting, problem solving, and coaching techniques. Kathy Paro, Melissa Martin, and Keith Hardwick, leaders of this organization, are pleased to share some of the challenges and successes of this implementation with their local ASQ chapter.
◦Inova is a $2.5B not-for-profit healthcare system based in Northern Virginia that serves more than 2 million people each year throughout the Washington, DC metro area and beyond. Inova is a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient services and ambulatory facilities, primary and specialty care practices and health and wellness initiatives.
