CMM Precepts
There is a set of processes (KPAs) that will enable an organization to improve its software development capabilities
- You cannot improve unless you have these processes in place
- Goal is good management process, and all else will follow from that
Maturity levels are progressively built on previous level
- Verify all Level N processes before attempting to establish Level N+1
Goal is to improve process (no measure of ‘Product’)
- Characterizes process only
Baseline is process assessment
- Change based on assessment of process
Process emphasis is on management activities
- No focus on ‘technical’ issues
